We currently have a position for a Senior Network Design Specialist to join our Network Design team in Technology Platforms. As a Network Design expert, you will be responsible for designing Sky's core networks in a professional, structured and cost effective manner. Network Design manages the IP communications infrastructure (networks and telephony) for Sky. The existing infrastructure primarily consists of Cisco based platforms for the network and Avaya based platforms for telephony. The main objective of the team is to create and maintain a Telecomm/Network Strategy for Sky, producing and documenting designs and standards that meet our customer's expectations.
Role responsibilities
* To lead the design and specification of Sky's network infrastructure to ensure the security, availability and integrity of the company's computer processing and communication capability.
* To ensure the fitness for purpose of the company's data network infrastructure through appropriate design and selection of technology in line with our Technology strategy.
* To undertake research and development activities with new technologies to identify and report how these could be used to support the business objectives and exploit new business opportunities.
* To ensure the smooth transition of new network infrastructure technologies from design into production and help to prevent interruptions on live services.
* Together with other members of Technology Platforms, participate in the development and maintenance of design standards for Technology service levels to customers and clients.
* To ensure all designs are documented, compliant, delivered on time, and in budget.
* To work in partnership with those responsible for overall technology standards to help define the strategic technology architecture and to define, recommend, maintain and ensure adherence to technical standards for the network infrastructure environment.
* To act as a Centre of Expertise for all existing network infrastructure in use within Sky
Skills and experience required
* Track record of working in a senior network design role within a large corporate environment. Experience of designing large corporate networks and working within data centre environments.
* Excellent knowledge of networking standards, protocols, and technologies.
* Excellent core routing and switching skills.
* Experienced on a wide range of networking platforms, primarily Cisco. Qualified to CCDP/CCDE level. CCIE desirable.
* The ability to design service orientated network architectures.
* Knowledge of infrastructure virtualisation and 'Green IT'?.
* Experience of network management, diagnostic and compliance tools.
* Ability to drive continuous service improvement through superior design and use of the technical infrastructure.
* Strong communication and influencing skills. Credible with senior management.
* Experience with high end Cisco platforms such as Cisco 65XX series and integrated service modules such as FWSM/ACE.
* Cisco qualified specialist in one or more of the following: Unified communications, Wireless LAN, Security, Optimisation.
* Experience of developing and administering large and complex Cisco based infrastructures
* Excellent documentation and presentation skills.
* Ability to learn and apply new skills quickly and effectively
* Analytical approach to problem solving
